Teresa Lewis's Execution

On September 23, 2011, Teresa Lewis was executed in Virginia. Staff of the National Clearinghouse worked hard organizing people to do what they could to save Teresa's life. After the execution, Sue Osthoff (Director) and Andrea Bible (Special Projects Coordinator) sent out messages to their colleagues and friends. Heidi Notario-Smull sent us a moving piece she wrote about talking to her almost 9-year-old son on the night Teresa was being killed. With her permission, we are including it here.

Read Sue Osthoff's message, Mourn and Organize:  Reflections on an Execution.

Read Andrea Bible's message, Today I am Grieving.

Read Heidi Notario-Smull's piece, Talking to Noah about Teresa Lewis.

On April 3, 1991, the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women's (NCDBW) Board of Directors took a organizational position opposing capital punishment under all circumstances. Click here to see NCDBW's position.
